THE ODYSSEYAn Overview
For those of you who have read The Odyssey, you may have been as surprised as I was. Once I got past the "language barrier", I actually began to like the story. For those of you who haven't read it yet, I have included links to refer to translations and discussions of Homer's epic poem.
| TERMS TO KNOW Many of you may be wondering what exactly is an epic. An epic is a long narrative poem that presents characters of high position in a series of adventures that is important to the history of a nation or a race. Under the epic fall all of the following:epic action, epic hero, epic setting, epic simile, epic style. These terms mean the same things they usually do, but the "epic" makes them on a larger scale. An episode is an adventure or tale complete in itself but a part of a largerliterary work.
